oday I am before you all as a grieving
husband on behalf of this family who
Tthough separated by circumstances
beyond our control, have travelled from far
and near all over the country and overseas to
bid farewell to my Queen and Friend, Wife,
Mother of our wonderful and exceptional
Children, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin,
Counsellor, Intercessor, Pray Warrior,
Homemaker, Mother-in-Law, Sister-in-Law,
etc. No number of words I speak here today
can express my feelings symbolic of a dam
which is about to burst and overflow its
boundaries.
Beatrice Afua Eyaaba Dadson was born in
1954 to Mr. John Godfred Dadson and Mary
Ama Anyimah Kwofie, all of blessed memory
in Effie Kuma, Takoradi where she grew up
and spent her adolescent years till the early
months of 1973, when she relocated to Tema
Community 7, to reside with her elder sister
Veronica Dadson, popularly known as Sister
Naana. One day after our training session as a
member of the Tema Hockey Club, one of our
teammates said he had come across an
exceptionally beautiful girl and entreated
about six of us to go and see her. She was at
that time an apprentice Hairdresser at a salon
located just behind the Tema Courthouse.
Each and every one of us was dumbfounded
and awestruck by her beauty and as expected
wanted to hustle her. At that moment I could
feel some sort of inner attraction and goose
bumps all over me and determined to make
my move for her when the opportunity availed
itself.
I didn't have to wait very long, because when I
came back from leave in November 1973 at
Tema Food Complex Corporation, she had
just been hired to the company and I didn't
waste time at all to try to woo her, which at that
time seemed impossible as the competition
for her was everywhere, because some senior
officers of the company as well as junior
officers were all interested in her. The one
good thing that kept her grounded despite her
beauty was her upbringing and character. I
asked her to be my date for the end of year
party of the company which was just around
the corner to which she obliged. She finally
agreed in February of 1974 to be my girlfriend.
We courted for two years and finally got
married in 1976.
In that very same year, I encouraged her to
resign her position from T.F.C.C. to become a
full time, Home Maker. She used that
opportunity to fine-tune her hairdressing skills
and thank God she did. The reason is that
after making some bad investments on my
part, I fell on rocks and could not provide for
the family to the social status we had become
accustomed to. Her hard work and support
from her profession contributed to sustain the
family immensely. Between 1980-1983, I left
her alone with the kids and traveled to Europe
to try to find greener pastures, but things didn't
work well as anticipated. She passed her
hairdressing skills on to a lot of ladies through
her apprenticeship programs as well as
catered for makeup for weddings and special
occasions. 1984-1991 continued to be trying
moments for me and I decided to go to USA. I
once again with her encouragement and
support left her with the kids alone in January
of 1991 to settle in the USA.
Finally in 1996 after formalizing my
immigration status, I came to Ghana and
moved my Queen and the kids to settle in the
USA. She didn't hesitate at all and
immediately undertook H.H.A. Certification
and immersed herself with work that
sometimes took her away from home for
weeks and months to help support the family,
because taking care of six kids at that time
was indeed a chore and challenging at times.
She not only performed her H.H.A. work with
diligence, but also continued to work as a
hairdresser to clients on request, as well as
followed her mothers' footsteps as a trader
and engaged in trading selling all sorts of
goods like cloths, headgear and scarfs,
shoes, cooking utensils, plates, etc.
One of the characteristics I cherish about
my Queen was that she abhorred
procrastination. She despised it to the hilt
and always was on top of her game to
expedite chores and programs. My Queen is
the embodiment of Proverbs chapter 31: 10-
31. I wouldn't bore you with reading all the
verses but want to draw your attention to
verse 30.

passing. But a woman who fears the Lord
shall be praised.”
