                                         INTRODUCTION

As a woman with a lifelong entrepreneurial spirit of independence, success in whatever I tried to
do often came in dribs and drabs. The very independence and passion that drove me since
childhood was a big part of what stopped me. Many people become their own worst enemy. That
was me. One minute I was on top of the world and in thirty seconds I would somehow convince
myself that one day soon people would find out that I didn’t know what I was doing, I would lose
it all and die broke and homeless. My mind would take off and there was no stopping it. No more.
Now I know that I control what I think and I control every aspect of my life. I may not be able to
stop things from happening however I control my reaction to those events. The outcome is
always in my hands. Jack Canfield refers to this concept as E + R = O, Event + Reaction = Outcome.
             All is never lost.

                                  WHAT DO WE WANT?

The concept of going it all on our own is not fruitful. Braving a new career or lifestyle can be an
ambitious goal that may not immediately earn the support of our friends and family. We’re too
young, we’re too old, we don’t have the ability to quit “this” and choose “that. How do we find our
passion? Our purpose? Our true magic? We need support. We need a mentor.

After spending half a decade shoving every square peg into every round hole, in both life and
business, I decided to become a student of what makes a person successful. I couldn’t have been
the only one who believed my intelligence and passion would get me to where I wanted to be.
Well, the truth is, there is a recipe for that. It doesn’t come naturally for most people and I was
always close enough to my version of success to think it did for me. I was wrong.

I learned that most of us don’t know what we want. Yes, we all want to be happy and healthy and
successful. What does that even mean? What success looks like for me may be the opposite of
what success looks like for you.
