P. 53
How can we learn how to develop and sustain healthy love when society has not figured it
out for centuries? Because of my upbringing, I knew I did not know how and that I needed
to learn. I had been getting advice from family and friends all my life, in an effort to learn
just the basics of healthy love. But there was one entity I had not consulted. The Creator of
all things. It made sense to learn about love from the Creator of love. This turned out to be
the missing piece that completed the whole puzzle.
I had heard about God’s unconditional love and being fearfully and wonderfully made as a
child. But I had never thought about love from the way God loves us because the notion
seemed too abstract. Seems we naturally gravitate to learning about love by developing
relationships with a flesh and blood human being, instead of the creator of love.
I realized there is a template for love that is a good resource. I started developing my
spiritual life and applied the spiritual principles about love to situations in my life. And
I am happy to report that today there is not one remedy to a problem, or description of love,
that I used from the Bible that did not, or does not, serve me well to this day. It helped me
with my stubborn areas and the areas of myself that used to sabotage me and my
relationships . It also gives me the balance I need to detect when to protect myself from
others.
What If You Were Loved By Someone Like This?
A person who:
• Responds to you with love, patience, and kindness when you are wrong.
• Is not envious of you and gives of themselves selflessly.
• Is not boastful or prideful.
• Is not rude toward you, or easily angered.
• Holds you accountable but doesn't keep a record of your wrongs.
• Refuses to be deceitful, respects your individuality and is always truthful with you.
• Protects you, trusts you and perseveres through conflict with you.
