connecting with a professional organization of educators committed to YOUTH,
EDUCATION, and SERVICE.
In the organization’s commitment to youth, a component of NSPDK’s student
outreach is the Xinos and Kudos. Throughout the year, members meet with
these high school students in grades 9 -12 (male and female) providing
academic and career guidance, personal development, college tours, service
projects, book awards and scholarships. Annually, the Xinos and Kudos
participate in a Youth Leadership Conference where they are recognized for
their academic excellence, oratorical, talent, art, science and writing skills.
National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. was established in Jersey City, NJ in
1923 (Alpha Chapter). Two public schools are named after two of the
founders: Julia A. Barnes (PS#12), and Gladys Cannon Nunery (PS#29). The
sorority also sponsors the Dr. Florence Steele Hunt Scholarship at New Jersey
City University.
