      VISIT THE NORTHSHORE

        HEALTHY EATS
The Northshore is known for its decadent and delicious cuisine including Cajun, Creole and Southern comfort foods, but that doesn’t
mean you can’t also find healthy dining options, too. The destination offers plenty of “good-for-you” eats and allergen-friendly
foods to help keep your goals in check. Try Another Beautiful Day in Mandeville for its vegetarian, vegan, salt-free and sugar-free
menu options. For a restaurant where everyone (regardless of dietary restrictions) can dine safely, choose Turgeau’s in Covington.

The chef, Rosie Ledezma, became passionate about allergen-friendly cooking after developing food allergies in her teens. Menu
items start with vegan butter, almond milk and oat milk, as well as gluten-free flours and oats.

        TRANSPORTATION HUBS TURNED EATERIES
Former transportation terminals and depots have been put to good use by two husband-and-wife teams of culinary masterminds.
Hailing from Northern California, Torre and David Solazzo converted a former Covington Greyhound bus terminal into a global-
style gastropub, called – appropriately enough – The Greyhound. The restaurant offers Art Deco-style paintings and a robust menu
that runs the gamut from North African lamb meatballs to a Reuben sandwich with house-made pastrami. Nearby, LOLA Restaurant,

which serves delicious made-from-scratch fare created by chefs Keith and Nealy Frentz, is set in Covington’s historic train depot,
with the kitchen located in the train caboose and dining available on a train car. LOLA’s is known for its delectable sweets, and
recently established Bertie’s Simple Southern Sweets, scheduled to open at the area’s luxury Southern Hotel in 2025. In Slidell, the

Times Bar and Grill is located inside the historic Slidell Train Depot. Its décor gives a subtle nod to local and regional sports teams
and its menu features classic American and Southern fare.

        GO FISH!
The waterfront towns that comprise The Northshore offer a boatload of fresh seafood at markets, restaurants and events. You’ll be

able to find your fair share of Louisiana crawfish, shrimp and crabs during seafood boils from March through June. Plus, each April,
the town of Slidell hosts what is thought to be the largest single-day crawfish cook-off in the world. Visit Kenney Seafood, which
has been operating as a wholesale fishing operation since 1972 and a seafood market and restaurant since 1989, for some of the

best boiled Gulf shellfish and other favorite dishes like Po-Boys, gumbo, jambalaya and more. You’ll also see plenty of redfish and
trout on menus, as Louisiana is the redfish capital of the world and Lake Pontchartrain is a nationally known estuary for large trout.
