PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY :
Growing up biracial in America places me in a unique niche, in that I belong to multiple racial
communities and identities. This was especially clear to me when comparing my life growing up in a
predominantly black community, and then transitioning to a predominantly white community. What
surprised me most about this transition, was how easily I was able to adjust to such a drastically
different environment. I think having this unique perspective helped me realize that my racial identity
did not matter to people. In both communities, I made new friends not because of my identity or the
way I fit into the community, but purely based on who I was as a person and my character. As for my
future I plan to use these experiences in my future endeavors of life by first continuing my academic
endeavors at Michigan State or Wayne State University to stay connected with my family and the
broader Detroit community.
