RAKIRA URQUHART…..

HOW WILL YOU HANDLE THESE CHALLENGES ?

FACING ADVERSITY Caused by COVID-19 Pandemic, Systemic Racism, Blacks Murdered by Police:

My motivation for facing adversity caused by systemic racism and police brutality is rooted in my
commitment to improving the lives of my family, friends, and community. I do not accept the way that

black people and other disadvantaged communities, including LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities
are being treated in the United States. I cannot change the world in a day, but I can educate myself
and others by reading and engaging with community members to start the process of dismantling
systems built to keep us down.

In regards to COVID-19, maintaining the health of myself and my loved ones is definitely a priority so
anything that goes along with protecting that will become a part of my everyday practices.

KEEPING YOUR FAITH In God to Overcome the Adversities You Will Surely Face:

My motivation for keeping my faith in God while battling adversities is knowing that there isn’t
anything that I can’t overcome. I know that I am loved and supported and that alone can carry me
through any obstacle that I am up against

STAYING COMMITTED TO ACHIEVEMENT Academic Success, Individual Development, and Spiritual
             Growth:

My spiritual, physical, and mental growth have equally contributed to me staying committed to my
goals and responsibilities. Stress is unavoidable but finding ways to overcome that stress, even if just
for a temporary moment, opens a space for me to fill it with possibilities of individual development,
academic successes, or other personal goals.
