“I saw my job as building bonds and strengthening ties.”
Her role in creating a culture of community engagement began during trying times as the Covid-19 pan-
demic locked things down and the death of George Floyd was the national backdrop. Events that were
planned had to be mindful of safety, the current socio-political climate, and of course any political under-
currents that could impact SPAM and future bargaining on contracts. Under Cathy’s guidance everyone
in attendance could feel the transition from a planned community event to an organic experience of con-
nection. The hesitant and standoffish ‘us vs them’ mentality melted away once an event was in full swing.
Her role was vital in strengthening bonds and building trust and only Cathy could have accomplished so
much and had such a big impact in the time she was part of our team.
We wish Cathy the best as she tackles her new role as the Director of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion for
the City of Everett.
