Nurse Practitioner
Standard Operating Procedure
Type of SOP: Nurse Practitioner Standard Operating Procedure
Purpose To assist Independent Medical Group’s (IMG) practicing providers with guidance of required
adherence involving licensing upkeep, standards of practice and patient care responsibilities and liabilities.
ARNP Provider Defined ARNPs are registered nurses with specialized, advanced education and clinical
practice competency to provide health care for diverse populations in a variety of primary care, acute, and long-
term care settings. Master’s, post-master’s or doctoral preparation and national board certification is required
for entry-level practice (AANP, 2006).
License regulation requirements must be maintained by APRN in solidarity. The APRN will not practice
as an IMG provider if unable to maintain required licensing and will be immediately relieved of duties if
found to practice without proper licensing and certifications in accordance with state guidelines.
Florida APRNs are required to complete at least 27 hours of CE every renewal
3 of these hours must be on the subject of Safe and Effective Prescription of Controlled Substances
All Florida nurses must complete the following courses for each renewal:
o Florida Laws and Rules, Medical Errors, & Human Trafficking
If it is your first time renewing a Florida nursing license, you must complete at least 1 hour of CE
covering HIV/AIDs
Every third renewal, each Florida nurse must complete an additional 2 hours on Domestic Violence,
which does not count towards the 24-hour threshold
Every second renewal, each Florida nurse must complete at least 2 hours on Recognizing Impairment in
the Workplace
Florida APRNs state all nursing professionals must complete this course every biennium beginning January 1,
2019. The first licensees who will need to fulfill this CE requirement are those renewing April 30, 2019.
The course must consists of data and information on all of the following:
• The types of human trafficking
• Factors that place a person at greater risk of being a victim of human trafficking
• Public and private social services available for rescue, food, clothing and shelter referrals
• Hotlines for reporting human trafficking which are maintained by the National Human Trafficking Resource
Center and the United States Department of Homeland Security
• Validated assessment tools for identifying a human trafficking victim and general indicators that a person may
be a victim of human trafficking
• Procedures for sharing information related to human trafficking with a patient
• Referral options for legal and social services
