SUICIDE

‘Cold hushed, there is only the shifting moments

Suicide comes from the Latin word ‘suicidum’. In 1642, A British doctor & writer Sir

Thomas Browne uses the word ‘suicide ’in the first time of his book “Religo Medeci”. Then in
1651, the word ‘suicide’ include in the Oxford English dictionary. Before that it’s synonyms
was self-murder, self – killing, self-slaughter’.

In the ancient world, suicide was a part of culture of some society. Nowadays, its proved that
the thinking is totally wrong. We all are human and The God creates us. So Only God has the

right to determine of our death. But sometimes unfavorable situation commits suicide.

The psychiatrist says that, “About 80% 0f people who commits suicide are suffering from
Schizophrenia or Bipolar disease. In the present era, psychiatrists relevant suicide as a
psychological disease. This type of patient’s brain has less sensitive than normal people. That
reason, they feel depressed in small issue. They can’t tolerate the mental pressure. So, escape

from the embarrassing situation they commit suicide. In 1897, The French sociologist David
Emile Durkheim’s text ‘suicide’: A study in sociology’- he amnestied the social anomaly than
mental disease for suicide. He analysis the cause of suicide in 4 ways. These are –

EGOISTIC SUICIDE: According to Durkheim, when a man becomes socially isolated or
feels that he has no place in the society, he destroys himself. This is the suicide of self-center

person who lacks altruistic feelings and is usually cut off from main stream of society.

ALTRUISTIC SUICIDE: This type of suicide occurs when individual and the group are too
close and intimate. This kind of suicide results from the over integration of the individual into
social proof, for example – Sati Customs, Dannies Warriors,

ANOMIC SUICIDE: In due to certain breakdown of social equilibrium, such as, suicide after

bankruptcy or after winning a lottery. In other words, anomic suicide takes place in a situation
which has cropped up suddenly.

FATALISTIC SUICIDE: Due to overregulation in society some people commits suicide.
Under the overregulation of a society, when a servant or slave commit suicide, when a barren

woman commits suicide, it is the example of fatalistic suicide.

Alex Lickerman, who is the Ex- director of primary service department of University of
Chicago, USA. In 2010, he marks 6 reasons of suicide in his book of ‘The Undefeated Mind’.
