Fausto Ramirez
Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music
HONOREES
Mr. Fausto Ramirez has worked over 30 years at Lehman College’s Department of Public Safety. In 1984, Mr. Ramirez began as a regular Patrol Officer and then rose through the ranks to serve as Assistant Director from 1988 until 2015 when he was appointed as the Campus Security Director. Mr. Ramirez has played a major role in every Public Safety initiative and has been instrumental in ensuring the safety of high school students on campus. In 2014, he helped establish an Active Shooter Training Seminar to inform faculty, staff and students how to respond to a potential active shooting event. Working with the Division of Information Technology, Mr. Ramirez revamped the Lehman identification card. He has also received two presidential awards for excellence.
Ms. Darina Qafleshi has a Bachelor of Arts degree in violin performance from the University of Arts, in Tirana, Albania, and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Lehman College of the City University of New York (CUNY). As a musician, she is a member of the Musica De Camara String Orchestra, Lehman String Quartet, Lehman College Symphony, Lehman College Latin Band, and the Lehman College and Community Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Qafleshi became a member of the Music, Multimedia, Theatre, and Dance Department of Lehman College in 2002, while continuing her graduate studies at Lehman. She continues to serve this department, performing various duties in the capacity of Senior College Laboratory Technician.
Ms. Daihana Frias is an alumni of Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music. She graduated in 2011 with the Principal’s Recognition Award for exemplary citizenship and contributions to the school community. Ms. Frias was part of Celia Cruz’s first GEAR UP cohort and is a trained vocalist. Walking the halls of Lehman College during high school inspired Ms. Frias to enroll at Lehman College and study speech pathology. Ms. Frias believes that language and music are both universal forums of communication. She is working to become an ambassador for speech pathology for high school students entering college.
