Children will:
Understand the importance of numbers and shapes in their life (shopping, cooking, and building).
Have access to a range of strategies and resources to support their development in and enjoyment
of Mathematics.
Develop personal preferences in choice of colours, numbers and shapes.
Have the opportunity to use number and shapes and measurement e. g. in assemblies, class
activities.
Receive the support they need in line with their learning needs, their chronological age and their
math age to enable them to make progress and enjoy and achieve in the area of computation.
Develop higher order problem solving, construction and prediction, sequencing, and patterns
Play with numbers shapes and measuring patterns with a carer/parent.
Use math words / talk in daily activities.

Parents/carers will:

Support the EPG policy in Mathematics in particular the need for real life connections to
mathematics.
Work with the teachers to develop Mathematics skills.
Promote and support new initiatives which will encourage number, shape, space and measurement
recognition in branches e.g. book fairs, Mathematics Week, trips.
Attend the Mathematics Parents Workshop (FS1 and FS2).

The Mathematics program will be delivered through a variety of strategies including:
Impact Math
Manipulatives, workbook drill and practice (FS1-FS2 only), play dough formation of numbers and
shapes, whiteboard practice, abacus, calendar, dice, games, songs and actions
Use of IWB and appropriate, support activities - digital
Extension activities for the more able
Shared class books/storytimes/creation of personal Mathematics books
Home practice activities.
