researchers out there who wish to carry out the related studies in future and curriculum developers
will use the findings of the study to understand the academic positions that their learners are in
with regards to the challenges facing the teaching of poetry. Furthermore, the data from this study
will also be useful to the learners themselves as well, since they will recognise the benefits and
shortcomings of poetry in English as a second language. Basically most of the studies in Namibia
will focus much on Literature in general and this could be the first study which concentrates more
on one component of literature which is poetry.
1.6. Limitation of the study
The study was limited to the English Language Students teachers at the University of Namibia
which means the results of the study may not be made general to the entire country because other
students from other higher institutions were not considered in gathering of information. It could
be better if the study could have included students from other universities in Namibia and this
could have given us a broader picture from the information to be collected. Furthermore, the
researchers could be given false information by students due to time constraints, avoiding lot of
work and also other student life commitments.
There was a possibility that some of the respondents would not provide adequate information in
response to the questions. However, the researchers ensured that all the questions were clearly
explained to the respondents. Respondents could have said some negative and unreliable
information during the answering of the questions. However, the researchers ensured that a clear
explanation about the intentions of the study was presented. Lastly, the researchers could also find
difficulties from the respondents not getting sufficient time to the interviews.
1.7. Delimitations of the Study
The study was delimited to a single study area which is English language student at UNAM main
campus, Khomas Region. This simply means that the study only focused on English language
students that were from that institution and have participated in teaching practices at schools as
part of their study programme. The researchers focused on a reasonable number of students who
answered the questionnaires based on the study.
