2. What will you do to show respect when you had interrupted someone?
Sample answer:
Basically, we can’t fully control interruptions. In Spoken English, it is inevitable. We
somehow unconsciously interrupt another person. If that happens, then we just have
to ask for an apology. It’s a way of informing the person that you didn’t mean to inter-
rupt him.
3. What could be the reason why interruption occurs?
Sample answer:
More than anythings else, it happens because both parties are eager to explain their
side. They wanted to express their opinions and voice it out immediately. The emo-
tions affects our speech. If we feel we have to say something, then our tongue follows
and interruption comes in either consciously or unconsciously.
1. You were the speaker in front of the crowd and there were people consistent-
ly interrupting you. You are going to express your point as the big cheese of
the event.
Sample answer:
Excuse me, normally I would never show any reactions nor be destructed on any inter-
ruptions, but may I ask the reason for such? Do you want to raise anything ahead of
time, so I can note them and get back to you after the event? I don’t want to be mean,
but for some reason it’s already becoming uncomfortable. Moving forward, can you
tone down or raise your hand if you want to say something. In this way, we’ll show
professionalism and courtesy to the person speaking in front.
2. You were a customer service representative. There was a caller who speaks
too fast. You wanted to get his information correctly, but he kept on saying
things consecutively. Interruptions comes in and you wanted to manage the
call.
Sample answer:
I’m sorry to interrupt you sir, but I would suggest that you should speak a bit slowly.
Would that be possible, Sir? In that way, I can accurately gather your data. I would
like to give you a fast and correct service, so please provide me again your name and
phone number. Since you don’t have an account yet, I would suggest you to phoneti-
cally spell out your name for me. Would that be fine sir? Alright, I’m ready, Sir. Thanks
a lot for your cooperation.
