1. Your daughter wants to get a car for her 18th birthday. As his father, you know that she is not yet responsible
enough to drive her own car. You are discussing with your wife about your apprehensions in giving her a car.
a. She is clumsy and short-tempered
Sample answer:
Honey, please explain to your daughter that she can’t have her own car yet. I’ll give her a car after she has graduated from college. I believe
that she’s not responsible enough to drive her own car plus the fact that she’s clumsy and short-tempered. I’m just after her safety. I think it’s
necessary that they raise the driving age. These children have the guts to ask their parents to give them a car because they feel that they deserve
to have one as soon as they reach the legal driving age.
2. Your best friend’s 19-year old son was killed in a car accident. Carlo was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his
classmate. He died in a dreadful car accident when his classmate lost control of his car on a downhill S-curve
while traveling 120 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The point of impact was the passenger’s door. You are explaining
to your friend why it is crucial that the government raise the legal driving age.
a. teenagers are thrill seekers and carefree
Sample answer:
I am extremely devastated by his death. Carlo was a charming boy. He’s very sweet and thoughtful. He had a bright future ahead of him if only
he was more careful about his decisions. Because of this incident, I would support the calls to raise the driving age. Generally, teenagers are
thrill seekers and carefree. They are not concerned about their safety. Parents play an important role in making them realize that safety should
be their priority above anything else.
