Dining and Drinking 바이어와의 술자리 Lesson15
Dialog
Brown So, tell me about the types of alcohol and liquor that Koreans like.
Kim That depends, but people mostly enjoy beer or soju.
Brown Soju? Can you tell me what kind of alcohol that is?
Kim Soju is derived from a mix of rice and other grains. Some people find it
pretty strong. Actually, why don't you try some with dinner?
Brown Sure, why not?
Kim Then I'd recommend we have samgyupsal for our meal. That dish goes
really well with soju.
Brown The samgyupsal meat looks like bacon; and you cook it at the table?
It's rather like barbecuing.
Kim Yes, we grill many types of meat at the table.
Brown I see. I want to give a few of the other choices a try sometime, then.
Kim Here, let me pour some soju for you.
Brown Thank you. Well, let's toast to the success of our companies.
Brown So, how do I start once the meat is cooked?
Kim That varies depending on what you like. You can have it alone, or you
can dip it in this sauce, or you can wrap it in lettuce, like this. When
you wrap it in lettuce, you can add whatever you like from the small
dishes on the table as well.
Brown I see. And I was wondering, is it usual in Korea to eat something when
drinking?
Kim Yes, and whatever is eaten is called 'anju.' Most people prefer to have
some anju when they drink.
Brown Is that right? That's not exactly how it's done in my country. This is
quite interesting to learn.
Brown I really enjoyed having dinner together. The soju was much stronger
than I expected.
Kim Yes, as I said, it's that way for some people. Well, I guess it's about
time we hit the road.
