The 3D Printing Industry
10 Since then, 3D printing has become a major industry. By 2020,
analysts say that the companies making and selling 3D printer
technology could earn up to $21 billion! This growth is driven by
the increasing value in the use of 3D printing. Manufacturers of
cars and medical equipment, for example, can now use a
computer program and a 3D printer to cheaply print
replacement parts for their machines. These parts, in the past,
would have been made by complex, specially designed machines
only available in a factory.
11 With a starting price for a 3D printer of only a few hundred
dollars, many hobbyists, amateur inventors, and others are buying
them for their own use.
