howling wind sound effect.)

125 NARRATOR: Gigi’s loyal friends climbed down the mountain. They arrived at
Maliarda’s house in the middle of the night.

126 (Lights up full, revealing the house backdrop in upstage center.)
127 DOG: I don’t see any lights. Maliarda must be sleeping.

128 (CAT walks to door and mimes trying to open it.)

129 CAT: It’s locked! Now what?
130 DOG: I have an idea! I can dig a hole under the door!

131 (DOG gets on all fours in front of the curtain door and mimes digging. MOUSE enters
from left and moves to down-left, watching CAT and DOG.)

132 CAT: You’ll need a very big hole.
133 DOG: Have you got a better idea?

134 CAT: Wait—what’s that?
135 (CAT sees MOUSE.)

136 MOUSE: Eeek!
137 (CAT chases MOUSE from down-left to stage right. CAT catches MOUSE by the ear.)

138 MOUSE: Ow! Oh, please don’t hurt me!
139 CAT: Quiet or I’ll have you for breakfast!

140 MOUSE (quietly): Eeep!
141 DOG: This isn’t the time for a snack.

142 CAT: This is no snack, my friend. This is how we get the ring back. (To MOUSE) Listen
very carefully. You’re going to help us. If you do, we’ll let you go. If you don’t, it’s
mouse pancakes for breakfast. Do you understand?

143 MOUSE (nodding): Eeep.
