Mechatronics Constructs and Programs FarmBot

Mr. Clint Swofford’s Mechatronics
IV students are in the final stages of
putting together and programming
their new Genesis FarmBot, which
will allow them to grow vegetables
and plants in the raised garden that
they constructed. The technology
uses a CNC farming machine to
grow food efficiently using automa-
tion. Once programmed, the Farm-
Bot is able to plant seeds, measure
soil moisture and water plants ac-
cordingly, adjust lighting, and detect
and destroy weeds. The software included also helps in the planning of the garden
and even sends email alerts to a cell phone when it is time to harvest. The students
not only used their skills to assemble components and program controls but also
learned about growing sustainable, farm-to-table gardens as an added bonus.
