It’s quite familiar that
whenever you step into a
food court in the
department store, you can
always see wallets or phones
left on the seats.
Two types of thoughts may
pop up, and those
conceptions will be the
significant indicators that
tell apart locals and visitors.
As a Taiwanese myself,
belongings that are left on
the tables signal that these
seats are taken, and it is very
common that most
Taiwanese people can use
this method anywhere they
go, including food plazas,
crowded coffee shops
during mid-term weeks, and
some may even leave their
bags overnight in the library.
It may be shocking for
international visitors to find
Taiwanese people so
careless by leaving our
belongings unattended.
What’s worse, when the
visitors find out the locals’
intentions behind the action,
these situations evoke the
thinking that these people
have rather poor safety
awareness.
