The Tambo Tuanku Imam Bonjol Manuscript
The TTIB manuscript was written in Jawi script in Malay, but uniquely,
the Minangkabau people always understood it in the Minang
language. In fact, it contains authentic Minang words such as dek,
nan, alah, and even the distinctive expression hanyo lai, which
emphasizes the meaning of the sentence. This shows how the written
and oral traditions of Minangkabau are intertwined in a historical
work. More specifically, this manuscript was written using Diwani
script—a beautiful calligraphic style originating in Turkey that has
been popular since the conquest of Constantinople—making TTIB not
only a historical witness to the struggle, but also a cultural heritage
with high artistic value.
