                       2.7 Donning and removing surgical Gowns
                       Purpose
                       To protect patients from microorganisms present on the abdomen and arms of the
                       healthcare staff during surgery.
                       To protect healthcare workers' clothing.

                       Equipment: Sterile gown
                            Procedure
                   1.  The sterile gown is folded inside out.
                   2.  Grasp the gown inside the neckline, step back, and allow the gown to open in front of
                       you; keep the inside of the gown toward you; do not allow it to touch anything
                   3.  Holding the neckband with both hands and gently shakes the folds from the gown
                   4.  With hands at shoulder level, slip both arms into the gown; keep your hands inside the
                       sleeves of the gown
                   5.  The circulating nurse will step up behind you and grasp the inside of the gown, bring it
                       over your shoulders, and secure the ties at the neck and waist.
                   6.  Unfasten neck and then ties
                   7.  Remove the gown using a peeling motion; pull the gown from each shoulder towards the
                       same hands.
                   8.  The gown will turn inside out
                   9.  Hold the removed gown away from the body, roll into a bundle, and discard it into waste
                       or linen receptacle.
