Types of glove
1. Surgical glove
2. Clean glove
3. Elbow-length glove
4. Heavy-duty gloves
Surgical glove- used when performing invasive medical or surgical procedures.
Examination gloves-When there is a reasonable chance of hands coming in contact with
blood or other body fluids, mucous membranes, or one intact skin. They perform invasive
medical procedures (e.g., inserting vascular devices such as peripheral venous lines).
When they handle contaminated waste items or touch contaminated surfaces.
Elbow-length glove- Used during manual removal of the placenta and any other
procedure where there is a contact with a large volume of blood or body fluids.
Heavy-duty gloves- used for processing instruments, equipment, and other items, used
for handling and disposing of contaminated waste, and when cleaning contaminated
surfaces
Purpose
To ensure maximum asepsis to the patient and to protect the health care workers from the
patient's body fluid
