The following day, the Heroes attendees conducted an Encampment at Beaver Valley Masonic Temple in Beaver
Creek, Ohio. The Encampment team indoctrinated two Recruits, Brothers Dan Shirk and Ron Clement, Sojourners who
became brand new Heroes of ’76. Both Recruits were very moved by the experience, and their addition to the newly
revived General Montgomery Camp will certainly help them to begin conducting Bivouacs on their own.
Brother Thomas Jefferson Flournoy, Jr.
On Saturday, October 1, 2022, our National
Commander, Brother Randolph Geck presided over a
Centennial Founders Memorial Ceremony at Cedar Hill
Cemetery in Princeton, Kentucky, honoring Brother
Thomas J. Flournoy, Jr., also one of the founders of our
Order. Brother Geck was assisted by Brother William
G. L. Turner, Past National Commander and Past
National President of National Sojourners, as they
placed a Centennial Heroes of ’76 wreath beside
Brother Flournoy’s grave marker.
Brother Thomas J. Flournoy, Jr. was born August 7, 1842 and died
September 5, 1925. Very little has been discovered concerning Brother
Flournoy's life beyond the dates of his birth and death, because in 1937, a
fire destroyed all of the stored records of the Masonic Temple in
Paducah, Kentucky.
