07         MECHANISM OF IMPLEMENTATION

















                T  he  implementation  of  the  National  Nutrition


                   Policy of  Malaysia  is  under  the purview of the
                   National  Food  Safety  and  Nutrition
                Council  (NFSNC).  The  NFSNC  is  the  highest
                national advisory body that provides advice related
                to food safety and nutrition in Malaysia. The Council
                is  chaired  by  the  Minister  of  Health  Malaysia.  It
                consists  of  senior  officers  from  government
                agencies, representatives from non-governmental
                organizations  and  professional  bodies.  The
                establishment  of  NFSNC  was  approved  by  the
                Cabinet  on  21  March  2001.  The  objective  of  this
                Council is to ensure the health of the consumers by
                strengthening food safety at all levels of the food
                supply  chain  in  the  country  and  to  ensure
                Malaysians  achieve  optimum  nutritional  status.
                The  Council  meets  at  least  once  a  year  or
                depending  on  issues  and  needs.  This  council  is
                coordinated by the Joint Secretariat, the Nutrition
                Division  and  the  Food  Safety  and  Quality
                Programme, Ministry of Health Malaysia.
