Non-communicable          Chronic  diseases  that  of  long  duration  and  are  the  result  of  a  combination  of  genetic,
                                                               physiological,  environmental  and  behavioural  factors.  The  main  types  of  NCDs  are
                                     diseases (NCDs)
                       N                                       cardiovascular  diseases  (like  heart  attacks  and  stroke),  cancers,  chronic  respiratory
                                                               diseases (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma) and diabetes.

                                     Nutrition security        Nutrition  security  exists  when  food  security  is  combined  with  a  sanitary  environment,
                                                               adequate health services, and proper care and feeding practices to ensure a healthy life for
                                                               all household members.. (CFS, 2011)


                                     Nutrition-sensitive       Strategies or programmes that address the underlying determinants of fetal and child
                                                               nutrition  and  developement,  food  security,  adequate  caregiving  resources  at  the
                                     strategies/               maternal,  household  and  community  level,  access  to  health  services  abd  safe  and
                                     programmes                hygienic  environment.  It  can  serve  as  delivery  platforms  for  nutrition-specific
                                                               intervention potentially increasing their scale, coverage and effectiveness.  (Marie,2013)


                                     Nutrition-specific         Strategies or programmes that address the immediate determinants of fetal and child
                                                               nutrition and development, adequate food and nutrient intake, feeding, caregiving and
                                     strategies/               parenting practise and low burden of infectious disease. . (Marie,2013)

                                     Obesity                   A complex, multifactorial condition characterised by excess body fat. (MOH, 2004)

                       O                                       Abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. A person with a BMI
                                                               of 30 or more is generally considered obese.
                                                                                                   (WHO, 2014)
                                     Overnutrition             A  chronic  condition  where  intake  of  food  is  in  excess  of  dietary  energy  requirements,
                                                               resulting in overweight and/or obesity. (WHO, 2014)




                                     Overweight                Abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. A person with a
                                                               BMI equal to or more than 25 is considered overweight.  (WHO, 2014);

                                                               For children, weight for height > +2 SD of the WHO Child Growth Standards median.  (WHO,
                                                               2010)





                                     Public health             The art and science of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the
                                                               organised efforts of society through education, policy making and research for disease and
