Shepherding is both biblical and Christ-like, Jesus refers to himself
as a good shepherd (John 10: 11), which means there is a bad
shepherd. In His last conversation with Peter, HE repeatedly says
feed my sheep (John 21: 15 -17) referring to his disciple. With the
admonition of Peter in 1 Peter 5: 1 to 4; to the elders
Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, watching over
them not because you must, but because you are willing, as God
wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve;
not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the
flock. And when the chief shepherd appears you will receive the
crown of glory that will never fade away.
In the same way, the parent is the shepherd and the children are the
sheep/flock entrusted to our care because they are God's gift and
there is a crown of glory await everyone who did its job here no earth
especially at your old age.
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Psalm 127: 3
We are looking at how to train up a child (direct, guide, discipline,
lead) so that he will obey, trust and not depart from it and show
them the way into the paths of life in love and in totality
(mentally, emotionally, spiritually etc.). Parent is the first teacher,
role model and trainer is like a shepherd who lovely and gently
guides their sheep (children) in every way even using the curved
end of the rod /staff to pull wandering sheep in the right direction,
rescuing a sheep stuck or down in a pit even fighting off attacks
from wolves (mostly found on social media) who want to destroy
or take away the sheep.
