THE FINANCE CORPS ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER

SUMMER EDITION 2023

The Finance and Comptroller School organized the inaugural Finance Corps Soldier and Non-Commissioned Officer of
the Year board from May 16th to May 19th, 2023, marking a significant milestone post-pandemic. The event coincided
with our first Finance Corps Ball in three years.

A panel of Sergeants Major meticulously pre-screened numerous nominations from Soldiers across the force, selecting
only eight exceptional individuals to compete in person at Fort Jackson—four junior enlisted personnel and four NCOs.
The first day commenced before dawn with a rigorous six-event Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT), where sponsoring
NCOs and even Sergeants Major provided support and motivation by accompanying their competitors. Following the
physical challenges, the Soldiers faced a series of mental tests, including an impromptu essay and a demanding
technical skills qualification test. Our esteemed course writers and developers meticulously designed the latter
assessment.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the nominees, with special recognition for SSG Camennino and SPC Jarrett
(L-R pictured above), who emerged as our champions. I would also like to express my deepest appreciation to the
Finance Corps Association for their collaboration in arranging a befitting tribute for our winners—the Model 1840 Non-
Commissioned Officer's Sword.
