BENEFITS OF LEARNING ENGLISH
In today’s globalized world there are many reasons to learn a foreign language, and many
benefits of learning English specifically. According to Angela (2010) a recent study titled: “The
Contribution of Multilingualism Towards Creativity,” has proven many benefits are gained
through learning additional languages. English Language Learners (ELL), and anyone capable of
communicating in multiple languages, were found to have eight mental benefits. In addition, when
adults wonder why it is necessary to learn a language, Speck (2017) said teachers and experts
stated that it brings different benefits from social or practical aspects and it will get better job
opportunities and more lucrative salaries. Therefore, it is clear that learning English can bring
various benefits to oneself and the national sector.
The first thing is learning English can help us succeed in education and business. English
is the most common and widely used language in academia and English is also widely accepted
around the world. If we learn English so well that we are able to take a test such as the TOEFL
(Test of English as a Foreign Language), we can further our studies at universities that use English
around the world. Indirectly it will open many opportunities for the future especially in the field
of employment. This is because most of the sectors involves global relations with foreign
countries, especially the economic sector which involves direct trade with the whole country.
Therefore, in ensuring that this transaction continues to take place a communication that can be
understood by the whole country is needed. New American Economy (n.d.) says that nowadays
we can see an increase in demand for employees who can speak more than one language is
desperately needed by organizations because employees who can master more than one language
directly will facilitate the transaction process between suppliers and buyers from the whole world.
The second thing is that by learning English, we can build relationships with the
community. According to the author (Johanna n.d.) English is a social language, and learning is a
social skill that can help individuals to establish relationships with society. Learning English can
help us to communicate with people around the world in a variety of ways, both directly and
