e woke up at 4:30 a.m. on
Wednesday, October 15th, ready
W for our trip to Abeokuta. After
travelling to the Ibadan train station, we
boarded the morning train and arrived
in Abeokuta at about 9:15 a.m. From
there, we headed straight to Olumo Rock.
A tour guide welcomed us and shared
key facts about the site. Olumo Rock rises
137 metres above sea level and has three
levels, each carrying history and cultural
meaning. We saw the Lisabi Garden with its
flamboyant tree, a sacred shrine area used
for an annual ceremony, and the remains
of the Egba hideout where the community
once sheltered during conflict. Reaching
the top was the highlight, giving us a clear
view of Abeokuta, including the historic
Central Mosque.
After the climb, we visited the Nike Art Gallery,
explored the artwork, and bought adire
fabrics and other handmade items. Lunch at
FoodCo was a welcome break, and we ended
the afternoon enjoying games at the arcade.
By evening, we were back on the train to
Ibadan. Tired but satisfied, we returned to
the hotel, relaxed, and reflected on a day
filled with learning, culture, and adventure.
