went so well. I could see from the peripheral of my eyes that my
boss was standing in the corner beaming with pride. We got the
contract. If we didn’t get the contract, it wouldn’t have been
because of the presentation. Now, that’s the interesting part but
now let me confess what went through my mind when I was told to
do it. I thought maybe I wasn’t up to this job! It crossed my mind to
turn down the job because of the pressure. The night before, I
couldn’t sleep but the only reason I walked into the hall was that I
had no choice. If that presentation was on my initiative, I probably
would not have gone through with it. So how many opportunities
have we passed on because we lacked the courage to take the
bull by the horn and go for it? Courage is not pleasant; it is like
thinking of the task or project and wetting your trouser but still
going for it with the wet trouser is true courage. So, most
successful people would say they don’t want their children to go
through what they have been through. They wrap them in cotton
wool. It doesn’t usually end well because when our life is devoid of
courage, we start to wither. Bill Gates said ‘I would give my
children enough money to do what they want to do but not enough
for them to do nothing’ So it is a privilege to have the need for
courage in our lives, so embrace it and use it. I have a friend who
protected his 3 girls from any form of challenge, they never learn
to do anything except go to school and back home. The fact that
they never had to stretch in life means they didn’t apply themselves
in school, so they came out of school with no good qualifications.
To cut a long story short, the rich dad is still paying for women in
their 30s. Two of the women are on drug and the other one a
prostitute, not for the money but the adventure. That’s an extreme
example but it is not farfetched if you look around you. When
people encounter a project or task they have never done before;
they would say to you that they don’t have the confidence to do it.
Well, confidence is the reward you get for going through what I
called the 3Cs: Commitment, Courage, Capability and then
Confidence is the last one on the list. In the example I gave about
my presentation earlier, I must go through the commitment of
deciding to go through with the presentation for me to find the
courage. The decision to do the presentation gave me the
capability to do it again and again. Today I am confident to present
a television program and people say, oh you are very confident.
The truth is that I have gone through commitment, courage and
