How do you recognize the best person to do the work? The
example that is very relevant today is the way Google hire their
employees.
‘A typical Google recruiting process from initial contact to offer can
take between six and eight weeks if not longer. Google is known
for having a highly deliberate, and long process to make decisions
on a job candidate.’
They also go through a lot of applications which is why it takes so
long. You may think that’s a wasteful perfectionism, but their result
justifies their methodology. You need an incredible level of
discipline to keep hiring the best people. Most people do it
haphazardly because it can be very exhausting if you don’t have
the resources to do so. On the other hand, you cannot afford to fill
your vacant positions with average people otherwise you will get
average result.
I am not saying you spend 3months finding your employee but take
time to find the best one. Sometimes, money may be the object,
find the money if you are convinced that the staff has got the value.
It is an investment because if you manage to find the very best
one, they would help you build your dream. How to hire a superstar
is also in my book ‘Goldmine of Your Mind’
Include some element of psychometric test in your process; this is
to know who is suited to which role based on their personality and
natural tendency. I have been using psychometric testing for more
than 15 years now to recruit and place employees in roles suitable
to their nature. However, my inclination was confirmed to be right
when I read the book ‘Principles’ by Ray Dalio. If you haven’t heard
about him, he built a multi-billion dollar business with a net worth
of 18billion according to Forbes. His book titled Principles
explained how he struggled with recruitment and placement for
years until he discovered a psychometric test for assessment. I
published my book ‘Goldmine of Your Mind’ in 2016 and explained
this in detail. When I read it in Ray Dalio’s book published in 2017,
I thought hmmm, has he read my book? (Just joking). It was pretty
validating that my view and a business practice that I teach is being
used in very high places. So, you had better take my advice very
seriously.
