Four, Five, and Six-Strand Flat Plait/Braid
It is possible to make a flat plait with four, five, or six single strands using a
similar method to the three-strand flat plait. The secret of a good looking plait
is that the tension put on the strands used is always the same to give an even
effect. You will notice that, as you plait the long ends hanging below your
hands, they will get tangled; try and free them as you go. For a long plait it may
help to bundle each strand up and hold it in a rubber band or make a couple of
half hitches round the bundle. You can release more line as you need it.
