Breaux, who was announced as the successor to current
President Mickey L. Burnim, on April 28, got her first real
chance to interact with students and faculty during a reception
on Tuesday morning.
Burnim, who has served as Bowie State's president for the
last 11 years, will retire on June 30.
"I hope you'll leave your number nearby," she joked during a
20-minute address to the school community.
In her remarks, she outlined a broad plan for her tenure that
will put a premium on teamwork, partnership and getting
faculty members and students the kind of resources they will
need.
"Each day, I will be part of this team striving to have a
positive impact on the campus and the community and I will
work tirelessly to advance the mission of Bowie State
University and ensure that our students have every
opportunity to succeed," she said.
Since 2014, Breaux has served as the vice president for
advancement at Millersville (Pa.) University. In that role, she
was responsible for development, external relations and
alumni engagement. Under her guidance, the school's
endowment grew from about $30 million to $40 million.
