New Bowie State president meets with
campus community
It didn't take long for Bowie State University's incoming
president to feel at home.
Aminta Hawkins Breaux drove down to campus from her
home in Pennsylvania a couple of weekends ago, shortly
after she'd taken the job as Bowie State's tenth president.
She wanted to get a look around informally, just to get a feel
for the place, she said.
She got a couple of friendly waves from some members of the
facilities staff who were out working on a Sunday morning,
which made her feel welcome.
She also noticed some students out and about with large
trash bags, cleaning up the grounds. Seeing that struck her,
too.
"They were out taking care of their home and I think that says
a lot about how they value their university," she said. "That
reassured me that I made the right decision — because I saw
that care in this community."
