Environmental Zones Developing Principles

From the environmental scale of the Northern Taiwan to the environmental structure of Taipei
city administrative boundary, the homogeneity and heterogeneity on various topics formed
nine major environmental zones, and four city-wide development principles aiming at the
Taipei City Environmental Zones are proposed.

Preservations and Rehabilitation

In addition to Datuen Mountain, Qixing Mountain, Wuzhi Mountain and Nangang Erge
Mountain as the overall ecological environment matrixes, the park and green area of 10
hectares and 20 hectares in Taipei City is used as the main substrate for preservation and
restoration. They can maintain and rehabilitate the ecological and natural features of green
resources, or repair the green fingers and extensions of the suburban mountains cut by
roads. It also implements a park potentially of "park ecologicalization".
It has the protection of green resources in mountainous and hilly areas, and forms a
buffer zone at the junction with built-up area.
Rehabilitation of the fracture zone of road cut at the extension of the green finger near
the suburbs.
Maintenance and ecologicalization of large parks and green spaces in the city.
Preservation and management of rivers, estuaries and riverbank wetlands.
The restoration of the historic ponds and streams, regulating the climate and
responding to the demand for urban flood detention.

Extensions and Linkage
It mainly deals with the two-dimensional intermediary relationship between “built-up
area and mountainsides area” and “built-up area and waterfront area”, and linkage of the
green matrix and the green patch.
The serial linkage of the park green space in Taipei City is based on: the existing 39
boulevards in Taipei City, the existing section with existing road trees, the former old
Liou-gong Ditch and Wu-li-tsue Ditch system, the current road width, the regional
landscape characteristics of each district, re-planning Taipei park and green space serial
system based mainly on city roads. It is initially divided into four green belt levels.
The expansion of green fingers and green resources in the suburbs mountainous area.

The extension and completion of the main road green corridor in the built-up area will
draw the wind, purify the space, and reduce the urban heat island effect.

Reconnecting the relationship of life and ecology of people, creatures and rivers.
Strengthen the linkage and ecological flow of the dams, watergate and the existing
roads and green belt.
