Quantity

Quantitative Overlay

Overlay the zoning data obtained from the quantitative analysis in the first stage. Except for
some overlapping near the borders by the Mountainsides area, differences are quite obvious in
Built-up area. Qualitative judgement can proceed thereafter.

Qualitative Judgment

When it comes to discussing the differences of “the nature of the land” of the landscape pattern
of Taipei city, often the participation of local life experience and professional knowledge are
referred as the basis for qualitative judgment. That can also be used as a reference for deciding
the boundary after quantitative overlaying. The demarcation boundaries of environmental
zoning under method of qualify and quantify can reflect the difference of spatial attributes of
various zoning in GIS analysis, and make the environmental zoning close to the life experience
of citizens, and then generate a sense of identity to the environment as a whole.

Environmental Zoning

From understanding the nature of the land in Taipei City and analyzing the environmental
issues, different types of "Environmental Zones " in Taipei City are recorded. We worked out
the boundaries for these zones by sorting out a higher homogeneity of their positions, then
followed the mentioned steps Taipei City to divide them into nine major “Environmental
Zones”. Each one of the environmental zone represents its environmental characteristics and
developing principles in different areas of Taipei City. The park and green space system in the
environmental zone is also given different roles.
