The location of the LID facility setting up, in addition to considering the existing drainage
improvement plan, the flooding records in the past and flooding simulation data from Water
Resources Department will be analyzed, and also take into account the insufficient pumping
capacity in the watershed area. Commonly used LID facilities include installing green roofs,
porous pavements, rainwater harvesting systems (rainwater tank), bioretentions, vegetated
swales and natural drainage systems. Because Taipei is a highly developed city with numerous
densely populated buildings, there are very few places where large-scale LID facilities can
be implemented. At present, the LID is mainly working on small-scale rainwater tank and
increasing porous pavement area. Therefore, improving the green coverage of park/green space
can regulate floods more effectively. In recent years, the methods, that Taipei City has created a
water-green sustainable city that is able to breathe, are as follows:
