The Lion King Is Now Disney’s Highest Grossing Animated Movie Ever
Disney’s remake of The Lion King has paid off. The film is now the studio’s highest- rated animated movie ever— insofar as one considers it to be an “animated” movie. Re- leased on July 19, the remake has already grossed $1.3 bil- lion worldwide, notching its latest record over the week- end after scooping up an ad- ditional $20 million.
The Lion King has defied easy genre categorization. It’s not live-action, nor is it strictly considered anima- tion, per director Jon Favreau: “It’s neither, re- ally,” he told SlashFilm in May. “It depends what stan- dard you’re using. Because there’s no real animals and there’s no real cameras and there’s not even any perform- ance that’s being captured that’s underlying data that’s real. Everything is coming through the hands of artists.” While the film may not fit perfectly into the definition
THE LION KING
of either genre, it is highly lu- crative—one of Disney’s biggest hits in a year when the studio has seen multiple films hit the billion-dollar mark. Its $1.3 billion cumula- tive take places the film ahead of previous animated record-holder Frozen, which earned $1.276 billion. Per- haps the upcoming ice- princess sequel will bump The Lion King from the throne once it hits theaters this November.
The Lion King was one of the studio’s safer bets this
year. The blockbuster, basi- cally a beat-for-beat retread of the original 1994 film, stars Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner as Timon. While it’s technologically im- pressive, the movie has also been criticized for its lack of emotional depth and for los- ing out on the quirky benefits of hand-drawn animation. Still, audiences haven’t seemed to mind, flocking to screenings of the film all over the world.

cast trip to Toronto for Caribana. Sources close to the reality starlet revealed that a reconciliation in a
form of a re-proposal will be taped at her house this week. It will reportedly air on the next season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
Toronto social columnist Shinan Govani claimed Dennis surprised Porsha during a party and asked for her hand in marriage, once again.
According to insiders close to the mother of one, he reportedly proposed with "the same ring as before, but she is happy to have it back and be wearing it again."
Cosby Lawyers Ask Appeals Court To Toss #MeToo Conviction
HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Pennsylvania appeals court on Monday questioned why actor Bill Cosby never got a supposed non-prosecution agreement in writing as his lawyers asked the panel to overturn his sexual assault conviction.
Cosby, 82, is serving a three- to 10-year prison term for drugging and molesting a woman at his home in what became the first celebrity trial of the #MeToo era.
The three-judge panel asked why Cosby’s top-shelf lawyers didn’t follow the

norm and get an immunity agreement in writing, and ap-
proved by a judge, when ac- cuser Andrea Constand first came forward in 2005.
“This is not a low-budget operation. ... They had an un- limited budget,” said Supe- rior Court Judge John T. Bender. “Could it be they knew this was something the trial court would never have allowed?”
Cosby’s lawyers have long argued that he relied on the promise before giving testi- mony in Constand’s 2005 lawsuit that proved incrimi- nating when it was unsealed a decade later.
