Marbury Called Out Jordan On Twitter As 'Greedy'
STEPHON MARBURY
Former NBA star Stephon Marbury took to Twitter this week to promote the reboot of his sneaker brand and to criti- cize legendary basketball star and entrepreneur Michael Jordan.
The Coney Island native, who is currently playing ball for the Beijing Ducks, used the social media platform as a soapbox to call Jordan "greedy" and ac- cuse him of "robbing the hood" with his high-priced Nike sneak- ers.
Marbury also blamed Jor- dan for strings of violence asso- ciated with his trademarked, limited edition shoes.
Nike did not immediately re- spond to request for comment. Marbury's line of $15 sneak- ers, called Starbury, initially launched in 2006 for under $10, but folded in 2009 when Steve & Barry's, the chain of stores partnering with the athlete, filed for bankruptcy. He announced on Instragram in September that his footwear brand would be making a comeback
Chris Paul Suffers Fractured Left Index Finger, Will Miss Sunday's Game
CHRIS PAUL
Los Angeles Clippers All-Star point guard Chris Paul is ex- pected to miss Sunday's presea- son game against the Charlotte Hornets after suffering a frac- tured left index finger in Satur- day's practice, according to an NBA.com report.
The injury is not expected to keep Paul off the court for much time beyond Sunday's ex- hibition in China -- the first of a back-to-back set with the Hor- nets.
Paul's finger will be re-eval- uated before Wednesday's re- match with Charlotte in Shanghai.
The eight-time All-Star aver- aged 19.1 points, 10.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game in 2014- 15 in leading the Clippers to the Western Conference semifinals, in which they lost to the Hous- ton Rockets in seven games.
The Clippers open the regular season Oct. 28 at the Sacra- mento Kings.
USF Dominates Syracuse Behind Marlon Mack's Big Day
USF vs. SYRACUSE
Lovie Smith's fingerprints were all over Tampa Bay's first home victory in nearly two years.
The Buccaneers ran the ball with authority, young quarter- back Jameis Winston didn't make any costly mistakes, and an improving defense did its part, too, in Sunday's 38-31 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"This was just smash-mouth football. We lined up in two- tight end formations, two-run- ning back formations and pounded that football," Win- ston said. "And when you are able to force your will upon somebody else, and you've got a running back that's just get- ting 4 and 5 yards and then popping one for 20, that's great football."
When Smith took on the challenge of turning around a struggling franchise, he prom- ised the Bucs would win by running the ball, playing solid defense and getting smart play from their quarterback.
He is especially committed to the formula after going 2-14 in his first season in Tampa Bay and drafting Winston No. 1 overall this year.
Doug Martin ran for 123 yards and three touchdowns, helping the 21-year-old quar- terback rebound from his worst performance. And it helped the team snap an 11- game home losing streak that dated to December 2013, the same month the Jaguars (1-4) began an equally agonizing road skid that now stands at 12.
Winston threw for 209 yards and one touchdown without an interception, re- deeming himself after turning the ball over five times in a 14- point loss to Carolina the pre- vious week.
"We realized this past week that you can't win football games unless you protect the ball," Smith said. "It's about ball security on the offensive side. Jameis and the rest of our crew did that."
USF completely dominated Syracuse 45-24 on Saturday in Tampa, running up down and all around the Orange. The win gives the American a 4-3 edge over the ACC in head-to-head games this season, not exactly an encouraging stat for the Power 5 conference among them.
The Bulls have played hard this year, giving Florida State a tough time early in that loss, and falling just short of upset- ting Memphis last week. This is the first win over an FBS team this season and perhaps is the breakthrough they need
in Willie Taggart’s third sea- son, as USF tries to make a bowl game for the first time since 2010. Defensive end Eric Leegave Syracuse fits all day long, consistently pressur- ing quarterback Eric Dungey. Meanwhile, USF running back Marlon Mack was an unstoppable force on the ground, rolling to 179 yards and two scores. The road ahead is daunting, with games left against SMU, Navy, East Carolina, Temple and Cincin- nati. But this qualifies as the biggest win in the Taggart era. It’s one he desperately needed.
Cooking The Hurricanes: Dalvin
Cook Provides The Winning Score
Again As FSU Tops Miami
TALLAHASSEE - Dalvin Cook is a ‘Cane killer again.
Florida State’s sophomore tailback, who missed two days of practice last week with a pulled hamstring, was healthy enough to break the spirit of his hometown team for the second year in a row, scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 222 yards to lead the 12th- ranked Seminoles to a 29-24 victory over Miami on Satur- day in front of 82,329 at Doak Campbell Stadium.
Cook gained the most yards by an FSU running back against Miami in the history of the storied rivalry. Greg Jones had 189 yards against the 'Canes in 2002.
FSU (5-0, 3-0) blew leads of 17-3 and 20-10 and stumbled frequently in the red zone as Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya threw two touchdowns passes in the second half to give the Hurricanes (3-2, 0-1) a 24-23 lead early in the final period.
But Cook, who had two of his touchdowns on a pair of spectacular plays in the first quarter, put the team on his back in the fourth period he scored on a 23-yard run with 6:44 left -- his second 23-yard gaininarow--toputFSU head for good for its sixth vic- tory in a row over UM.
Cook scored the winning touchdown in the fourth quar- ter last season at Miami in a 30-26 FSU victory.
"That guy is something dif-

ferent ... there's something dif- ferent about him," FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said.
Fisher said Cook "is one of the best pure players in col- lege football ... 222 yards and he wasn't even supposed to play."
Quarterback Everett Gol- son finished 25-of-33 for 291 yards. Kaaya, picking apart a depleted FSU secondary, was 29-of-48 for 405 yards and threw a 29-yard TD pass to Stacey Coley to give Miami a 24-23 lead with 10:12 left in the game.
FSU won its 27th ACC game in a row and its 18th home game in a row. Fisher, who has never lost to the ‘Canes, is now 10-1 against in-state rivals UM and Florida.
"We had a lot of adversity ... we left a lot of plays and points on the field," said wide re- ceiver Jesus Wilson. "We just have to finish in the red zone ... score points and finish. That's the main thing."
