BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
Ricardo “Rick” Kin- sey, a Lifetime member of the Plant City Chapter, FAMU National Alumni As- sociation, along with his daughter, Jansen Kinsey, presented FAMU Interim President, Dr. Larry Robinson a check for $10,000.00 to the Matthew Bien-Aime Endowed Scholar- ship Fund during the FAMU- TSU football game.
Kinsey established the endowed fund last year in honor of Matthew Bien- Aime, a Tampa native who died in a fatal crash while driving back to FAMU. Matt was a graduate of Tampa Bay Technical High School and Florida A&M University. Matt and Kinsey’s son, Jordan were classmates and best of friends. They both at- tended high school and col- lege together.
“My love for FAMU runs deep. I have three kids who have graduated from FAMU. My father, uncles and cousins have graduated from FAMU. This past year, I provided two students from Blake and Tampa Bay Tech with schol- arships who are attending
FAMU,” Kinsey said. He fur- ther stated, “My daughter, Jansen, a senior at Blake has committed to FAMU without any pressure from her mother and I who also graduated from FAMU.
“I was able to sponsor 100 students from Blake, Tampa Bay Tech, Lennard, Middle- ton, Stewart Middle School, Legacy Preparatory Academy, AMIkids and the Hillsbor- ough County Department of Children Services to the Tampa Classic from generous donations by my retired mili- tary colleagues, high school classmates, and friends who believed in my cause of ex- posing kids to the HBCU ex- perience. I hope that this exposure provides a kid an opportunity to attend a col- lege or university to become productive members of our society,” Kinsey concluded.
The Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo “Rick” Kinsey Scholarship Ap- plication is open now for students who want to at- tend FAMU in the fall of 2018. Students from Blake, Tampa Bay Tech and Middleton High Schools, please see your guidance department for more information or contact Mr. Kinsey at rickinsey1@outlook.com. The deadline is March 1, 2018.

All Students Eligible For Free School Lunch
All students enrolled in the Hillsborough County Public School System can receive free lunch. The students can receive the free meals regardless of their eligibility status until Fri- day, October 20th.
The U. S. Department of Agriculture made the temporary change to make it easier for school districts affected by Hurricane Irma to feed students.
The Hillsborough County Public School Student Nutrition Services team provided 34,000 meals per day to evacuees at more than 40 of the schools serving as shelters dur- ing Hurricane Irma. More than 29,000 resi- dents sought shelter at one of the schools.
Many families lost power during the storm and did not have access to hot meals for a pe- riod of time. There were also reports of short- ages of certain food products across the state.
The free school lunches, in addition to the free breakfast, in place for all students, will en- sure students have healthy, nutritious meals during this time of need.
In order to receive the free lunch, students will only need to enter his or her student ID number after getting their meal in the lunch line.
This initiative will potentially impact more than 1,800 schools and 1.4 million students across the State of Florida.
