David Keating Climbs Mount Everest
David Keating had already climbed 5 of the
7 highest peaks in the world, so we were not
surprised to hear that Everest was on his list!
Everest is no ordinary climb – the summit is at
8849 metres , above the 8000 metre so called
‘death zone’ as the air is so thin and this requires
climatization – rotations to different heights in
the weeks prior to summiting.
And it takes time! David left for Everest at the
end of March and didn’t summit until 13th May!
Some day, we will get David to document the
whole adventure, but suffice to say it is extremely
tough physically and mentally. David lost about
15Kg weight (and he had none to lose!!) and
suffered mild frost bite on three toes of one foot.
What a tremendous achievement – only very
few are blessed with the physical and mental
endurance required.
David has the honour of being the first Ei
person to conquer Everest! And he may well
be the last!!
David Keating reached the summit of Mount Everest
shortly before 07.00am on the 13th May, with the Ei flag!
