AQMA Feasibility Assessment
A2 – Keycol Hill and Key Street, Swale
1.11 SBC has already declared several AQMAs across the borough. Two of these are
located in Sittingbourne, with others in Newington, Ospringe and Teynham.
Four of these AQMAs are situated along the A2. These AQMAs were declared
between 2009 and 2017 due to exceedances of the UK AQS for annual mean
NO2.
1.12 SBC updated the AQAP in 2018 to consolidate and combine action plan
measures into a strategic borough wide AQAP. The updated “Swale Strategic
AQAP 2018 – 2022” sets out the strategy and next steps in delivering the AQAP
3
measures including the introduction of a Clean Air Zone (CAZ) or “Clean Air
Corridor” along the A2 in Swale.
