The Braided Eye Splice
To make an eye splice in braided line, special tools and techniques are
required.
1. Bend a 36-inch length of baling wire into a fid, as shown; tape the
ends. Tape the working end of the braided line and tie an overhand knot
four feet from the tip. Form a loop the size of the desired eye; pencil a
hatch mark on the cover at the point where the splice should begin. Bend
the line here, pry apart the cover with a marlinespike and extract a short
loop of the core. Mark the core where it emerges from the cover.
