IMPORTANT WHILE ON SHORE: VOLUNTARY MEMBERSHIP
While crew is on vacation, Fleet must strongly encourage them to become a VOLUNTARY MEMBER and pay their social
contributions for Social Security System (SSS), PHILHEALTH and PAGIBIG / HDMF at any of the branches or accredited
payment centers near their residences.
Why do we encouraged crew to become voluntary member while on shore?
For SSS: Crew needs to have 120 contributions to qualify for the monthly pension when he file
for retirement.
If monthly contributions paid is less than 120 contributions, SSS will just refund the total paid
contributions in lump sum with computed interest but he will not be entitled to monthly pension.
For Philhealth: Crew needs nine (9) contributions within the 12 calendar months from the date
of confinement / hospitalization to be able for crew or qualified dependent’s to avail the
hospitalization / medical benefit. If there is lacking payment or insufficient contribution, then
crew will not be able to avail any benefits. This happens frequently to crew who did not pay
voluntary membership while waiting for their next contract.
In addition, if crew have children beyond 21 years old, crew should encourage them to pay
voluntarily for their medical coverage as they are no longer qualified to be crew dependents. NOTE: Magsaysay is only responsible
The premium amount is very minimal yet a big help during confinement/hospitalization. for remitting crew/principal
share to SSS/Philhealth/HDMF
For HDMF / PAGIBIG: Continuous monthly paid savings premium means higher savings while crew is ON-BOARD.
redeemable upon reaching the retirement age. It’s a one-time payment only.
