“Personally, I would wish I could more
easily obtain email addresses of all
co-authors of published papers.
This way I could approach those
I think should be consulted to review
papers on a specific topic.”
Dr Mario Malicki, Co-Editor-in-Chief
Research Integrity and Peer Review Journal
Community journals, including scholar-led journals and those from society publishers, often
benefit from community buy-in that encourages potential reviewers to accept invitations.
Encouraging members to sign up as volunteer reviewers, potentially with an indication of the
number of reviews they are willing to do each year, could be a valuable method of increasing
engagement with journals while simultaneously developing a reviewer pool.
Suggestions
• Work with editors and the JEO to identify
potential reviewers, particularly those
from under-represented groups, for
addition to a journal pool.
• Consider requesting and publishing
either ORCID or email addresses for all
co-authors on accepted articles to
facilitate future reviewer identification.
• Automate conflict-of-interest checks
based on previous co-authorship with
any author.
• Automate conflict-of-interest checks
where the potential reviewer is currently
employed in the same department as
any author.
• Invite community sign-ups to a reviewer
pool.
