Mary

                              A Strong Disciple

                               Mattew 27:56, 61, 28:1

        Introduction

ccording to Matt 27:56,61, 28:1 the women who followed
AJesus from Galilee were the strongest witnesses of the
crucifixion, burial and the resurrection of Jesus. One among
them was Mary, Mother of James and Joseph. According to Matt
13:55 two of Jesus’ brothers were called James and Joseph. So
this Mary could be the Mother of Jesus. Some Scholars say that
she was the Mother of two children one of whom Jesus chose
as an apostle namely James. Some writers identify her as “the
other Mary” ( Matt 27:61) or according to Matt 10:3, Luke 24:18
as the wife of Clopas or Alphaeus or as a sister of Mary, the
mother of Jesus. However, many scholars say that it is unlikely
that the two sisters in the same family could have been named
Mary. Another possibility is that the two Mary’s were Sisters-
in-law. Early Church father Eusebius recorded that Clopas was
the brother of Joseph, Husband of Mary, mother of Jesus. That
would make Mary, Wife of Clopas the Sister-in-Law of Jesus’
Mother Mary and James the less a Cousin of Jesus. Whoever
this Mary was, she was among the women from Galilee and
ministered to his needs whenever they could. According to
Luke 8:2,3 the women provided food, shelter, laundering and
even money. So that Jesus and the disciples could travel freely
preaching the Gospel. Mary was so committed to Jesus that she
not only helped and supported him during his ministry, but she
stayed till the crucifixion, burial and resurrection. Hence, she
was the committed and dedicated disciple of Jesus.

        Mary was a wonderful mother

She raised two sons who served Jesus. When they failed
