various versions of the same basic story, let us encounter and
experience the Cross by taking the life of the servant girl.
Girl’s question shows her interest
A Servant girl’s question shows her interest to know the
truth. She asked a question to Peter ‘You also were with Jesus
the Galilean’ but Peter denied it before all of them saying ‘I do
not know what are you talking about’ shows that servant girl
carefully paid attention to the ministry of Jesus and his disciples.
Isaiah 28:23 says “Listen, and hear my voice; pay attention, and
hear my speech” It is important for us to pay attention to the
word of God, but in the case of Peter, he did not pay attention
to the words of Jesus. Out of fear of death and struggles Peter
wanted to escape. But God’s purpose in the life of Peter was not
in safe zone, but to move forward with Cross in uncomfortable
zone, because our Christian commitment is not on the bed of
roses but crown of thorns and journeying with Cross through
the uncomfortable zones. Though Peter had lost his interest in
ministry of the Cross because of fear, God did not leave Peter.
Sometimes God speaks to us through children in order to
challenge and restore our commitment and interest in ministry
of the Cross. John 10: 27 also says ‘My sheep hear my voice. I
know them, and they follow me,’ Lent is a time to remember our
first love to follow Christ and his Cross.
Girl’s question shows her passion

Passion is the strong desire to move forward in the direction
of the Cross. When our passion is away from God’s purpose,
God shall correct us in order to bring us back to God. Passion
gives energy to make our voice heard. Girl’s question ‘You also
were with Jesus, the man from Nazareth,’ shows how Peter lost
his passion to follow the cross of Jesus Christ. Nameless girl’s
