Activity: Experiment to show living things grow.
Everything in this world can be divided into living and non-living things. There
are many characteristics which indicate whether a particular thing is living or non-
living. One such characteristic is “Living things grow and non-living things do not
grow”. Children learnt this characteristic of living thing by performing a small
experiment. They were asked to take two bowls, few cotton balls, green gram seeds
and stone. In one bowl was placed green gram seeds and stones in the other. Both
were provided with water and sunlight. However, only the green grams sprouts and
grows into a plant, as it is a living thing and stone is a non-living thing.
Children also understood about the importance of both living and non-living

things in nature by observing the “World Nature Conservation Day”. Each child
came with wonderful ideas to save our most beautiful gift “NATURE” given to us by
the creator.
