3 This would be an opportunity to provide additional counseling resources and education as it 8/16/2019 9:18 AM
relates to the contributors to and causes of violence and toxic stress and how to mitigate these
issues. We would focus on early intervention initiatives and providing education to children and
teens to help them avoid developing aggressive/violent behaviors and/or avoid being victimized by
others.
4 There are several places that a participant or applicant can seek counseling however, they are 8/15/2019 11:53 AM
required to pay out of pocket or co-pays, which times often when someonne is trying to get back to
self-sufficiency is not a priority. If our agency had the ability to assist with co-pays and or
medication, we then could work jointly with the counseling services and make sure the
individual/family is adhering to the prescribed counseling and and/or medication. If an applicant or
family is in need of medication or therpay in order to maintain their right frame of mind, it often
goes to the bottom of their needs list during difficult times.

stress scale. I would start programs to assist with these challenges.

Research best practices in communities that are experiencing extreme levels of violence and toxic
stress to ascertain if these practices will work in our communities. Expand on our Resilient
Communities research to implement gaps in services that need addressing.

Provide more mental health services for all people dealing with toxic stress.
